3 Artists

A few artists I've been looking at lately are James Swain, Chris Neuenschwander, and Gemma O' Brien. James Swain and Chris Neuenschwander are both relief printmakers while Gemma O' Brien is a typographer. Since being in relief printmaking this semester, I've really come to love the art of it and have been coming across artists who's technique and style I can learn from. Chris is from my hometown of Atlanta so I definitely want to try to see his work next time I'm home. Gemma I found through browsing one of Volcom's pages and she had a tutorial with a hand lettering technique and I've been following her work since. I love how James Swian puts different images into the overall images which I find unique.

Ephemeral Drawings

Path

This drawing was made on the little bridge to my mailbox by my front porch. I gathered as many dead banana tree leaves I could find in the the surrounding area and laid them down to cover as much as the bridge as possible. I liked how the colors of the leaves are a similar brown as the wood and reflect how the bridge was made of something once living just as the leaves were once alive. The last photo shows the aftermath of people crossing the bridge.

String Along

After making the first drawing, I skated out to the beach to contemplate what to do for the next one and on my way back home, I saw the wet spots on the street with the rocks right next to it. Using a mixture of the stones, I outlined the spots and using only the white stones, I lined them up going down the cracks of the street. My favorite part of the drawing is how you can see the street drying in the second picture but the stones will temporarily remain to show the shape I outlined for this drawing.
