Memory and Response Drawings

Memory Drawing

Title: Gone
24"x18"
Charcoal
Artist Statement: This piece ended up being very personal to me considering my family circumstances. I lived in the same home my whole life so it was a nice exercise to blindly draw my childhood home. When going back into the piece, I could see some letters in my drawing. I cut out and spelt the word gone since in the past year, everyone but my dad has left my childhood home. I've been away for years but my mom and brother left so the three cut outs represent us.

Response Drawing

Title: Mason Box
12"x9.5"x4.5"
Tracing Paper, India Ink, Tape, Charcoal, Cardstock
Artist Statement: This piece I felt I needed to do a 3D drawing since this story spoke of so many objects. I fabricated the letters and box and put vine charcoal around it so it leaves a mark just as the house left a mark on the character in the story.
